So Many

There are so many things

so many tiny annoyances

those niggling little things

that can ruin a day

or a week

or an entire year

There are so many things they don’t tell you

about growing older

They don’t tell you that

your face will revert to early adolescence

or that your period will think you’re a bitch

They don’t tell you that

your brain will lose strength

at the least convenient times

even seconds after thinking the very thought

you can no longer remember

They do tell you that your body temperature

will rise

but they don’t tell you that the furnace

becomes arctic chill

even when you’re still sweating

They do tell you that your strength might decrease

but they don’t tell you that your kegels

will weaken

in direct proportion

to the proximity

of a toilet

So many things

So very many things

tiny things

  1. Indeed!! So many things! Sometimes it drives me crazy, your poem captures it beautifully.
