an allegory

They buried her in an unmarked tomb believing nobody would want to pay her respects. Little did they know how much she would be missed by the masses. They couldn’t have been more wrong. People rise up and gather in every town, huddled together in her name. They sing her praises and lament her passing.

“She gave us so much.”

“She gave us EVERYthing we live by.”

“How did it happen?”

“We should have seen it coming.”

“We didn’t even realize she was that sick.”

“Why didn’t I speak out?”

“Why didn’t I _____?”

All these words spoken to make the living feel better, but there is no solace. Her death was not unavoidable. It was completely preventable. If only…

she could be resurrected…
